“Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center (PYC) held The 4th Junior Chess Tournament “Purnomo Yusgiantoro Cup” on Saturday, August 24, 2019, at Balairung Pahlawan Room, Satriamandala Museum, Jakarta. It aimed to celebrate the 74th Republic of Indonesia’s Independence Day, and as a place as an exercise for Indonesian chess youth athlete to compete in future tournament nationally and internationally.
The Chairperson of PYC, Mrs. Filda Citra Yusgiantoro, PhD, welcomed participants by reporting that the event attended by 160 children of 9-year age group (KU9) and 11-year age group (KU 11) as participants. They came from many provinces around Indonesia such as Jakarta, Banten, West Java, Central Java, Special Capital Region of Yogyakarta, East Java, Riau, Bengkulu, and West Sumatera. There was also one participant from India.
Mr. Imam Nahrawi, as the Minister of Youth and Sports of Indonesia, attended the event. In his opening speech, he appreciated and thanked Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center for the consistency in organizing the chess tournament since 2016 until now. The tournament was opened by a brief chess match between Prof. Purnomo Yusgiantoro (the founder of PYC) and Mr. Imam Nahrawi, witnessed by the participants.
We congratulate the winners from KU9: Veyron Fraser from Tangerang as the third winner, Gervasius Ludwig Setiawan from Jakarta as the second winner, and Steven Tan from Bogor as the first winner.
Meanwhile, the winners from KU11 are Satria Duta Cahaya from Jakarta as the third winner, Samantha Edithso from West Java as the second winner, and Jeremy Kandau from West Java as the first winner.
