Figure 1 Prof. Akiko Yamanaka Delivered the Presentation about Tsunami Resilience in Japan

The Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center (PYC) attended the Indian Ocean Regional Workshop  on Strengthening Tsunami Warning Chain to Critical Infrastructure (Ports, Harbours, and Coastal Airports) that was held to commemorate 15 Years Tsunami Aceh and World Tsunami Awareness Day 2019 on November 20, 2019. This workshop was  jointly organized by the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) and UNESCO-IOC (Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission) at BMKG. The Minister of Transportation, Ir. Budi Karya Sumadi opened the workshop by giving a keynote speech.  Subsequently, Prof. Dwikorita Karnawati Head of BMKG, Representative from Regional Director for UNESCO Office Jakarta, and Letjend. TNI Doni Monardo, Head of Indonesian Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB) who delivered the opening remarks.

One of the speaker for the first panelist session was Prof. Akiko Yamanaka, the Special Advisor to the President of ERIA. Prof. Yamanaka shared her insights and lessons learned from the Japan. She introduced the concept of “Smart Cities” and “Floatable Vehicles” developed in Japan. She stressed that the laws, regulations and infrastructure are key aspects that need to be formulated based on the situation of each community and region.
