Young Indonesian Professional Association (YIPA) and Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center (PYC) hosted Meet the Leader series event with Prof. Purnomo Yusgiantoro as the guest. The event was held in Plantation Place, London on July 18, 2019. Prof. Purnomo shared his experiences working in Indonesia’s government and his leadership insights. The participants were around 40 people, mostly, of Indonesian professionals and students living in London. Steven Marcelino, the executive director of YIPA, led the evening discussion with Prof. Purnomo.

The event was opened by a brief introduction of PYC’s area of interests and recent works, presented by Ms. Massita Ayu Cindy. Then, Prof. Purnomo started the talk by sharing his education background and early career path. Prof. Purnomo mentioned the education shifting from oil engineering to economics, which later led him to become a professor in energy economics.

Prof. Purnomo also shared his experiences as the longest-serving Indonesia’s minister, both as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources as well as Minister of Defense. He mentioned how strategic and challenging in managing both sectors. He also shared his time of being the governor of   Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). He addressed the history of the oil and gas industry in Indonesia. He also mentioned some rationale behind policies taken on his eras, such as fuel subsidy rationalization and Indonesia’s OPEC membership. Then, a networking session wrapped up the insightful Meet the Leaders event.
