The Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center (PYC) attended a seminar on “Regulatory Sandbox to Boost Innovations” on Thursday, February 27, 2020, in Jakarta. This seminar was organized by Masyarakat Konservasi dan Efisiensi Energi Indonesia (Indonesian Energy Conservation and Efficiency Society/MASKEEI) in collaboration with Lembaga Pengembangan Inovasi dan Kewirausahaan (Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development/LPIK) – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). This event was also attended by the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Mr. Bambang Permadi Soemantri Brodjonegoro.
The seminar began with an opening speech from Mr. R.M. Soedjono Respati, Chairman of MASKEEI. He hopes that the government of Indonesia could give more attention and utilize domestic research results so that it could drive people to produce more innovations and inventions. The speech was then followed by another speech from the Chairman of LPIK ITB, Mr. Sigit P. Santosa. In his speech, he mentioned about his hope on the implementation of certified domestic products. He encouraged the government to introduce a regulation concept so that the products from domestic innovation could get a special right to be implemented.
The third agenda was a keynote speech from Mr. Bambang Permadi Soemantri Brodjonegoro on “Regulatory Sandbox for Supporting a Sustainable Development”. He emphasized on the importance of prioritizing sandbox as a short-term program. He believes that regulatory sandbox could reduce the gap between innovation and product marketing. He also proposed to form a public service agency to boost innovation in Indonesia and to help the implementation of the triple helix system.
